General Terms and Conditions

What do the guarantees cover?

The extent of the guarantee of each product is described under each product.

Duration of the limited guarantee

The duration of the guarantee depends on the conditions stipulated for each product and it's valid as of the date of purchase. The products that are not covered by these guarantees will be subject to a standard guarantee of 90 days, with the general conditions established in the guarantee policy.

What will IKEA do to correct the problem?

IKEA will examine the product to decide if it is covered by the guarantee. If so, IKEA will decide whether to repair the defective product or replace it with an identical product or one with similar characteristics. In these cases, IKEA will be responsible for the expenses of repair, additional parts, labour and commute of IKEA personnel incurred by it, if the product is repairable without IKEA have to incur extraordinary costs to access it. This does not apply in cases where the repair has not been authorised by IKEA. Any defective piece removed during the repair will become property of IKEA in the event that the customer is not interested in it. In the event that the item is no longer sold by IKEA or it has been discontinued, IKEA will provide a replacement of equal value or characteristics. For discontinued items you can request the specific documentation at Customer Service.

By virtue of the provisions of articles 63 paragraph and 70 of the Law No.358-05 if it was proven that the product has been sold defective it will be the consumer's choice whether to replace it, reduce the price or get the money back.

Guarantee Conditions

The warranties are valid from the consumer (first consumer/purchaser) having the product in their hands as appropriate. It is necessary to show the invoice, in physical or digital format, as proof of purchase and identification of the holder. In the face of guarantee redemption (first time and consecutive) the deadline of the same does not produce renewal, will in any case be honored the remaining period, retroactive to the date indicated on the purchase invoice.

In case of resale or acquiring third parties, the term of the guarantee that accompanies the good does not produce renewal, will be honored in any case the remaining period, retroactive to the date indicated on the purchase invoice of the first consumer or purchaser.

By virtue of the provisions of articles 63 paragraph and 70 of the Law No.358-05 if it was proven that the product has been sold defective it will be the consumer's choice whether to replace it, reduce the price or get the money back.

Exclusions

Follow the assembly, installation and care instruction closely. The guarantees do not apply to products that have been stored or assembled in an incorrect way by an unauthorised services provider or directly by the customer or in cases when it has not been carried out by IKEA, used improperly, mistreated, altered or cleaned with incorrect methods or products. The guarantees do not cover natural deterioration, cuts, scratches or damage caused by blows or accidents. The guarantee does not apply if the products have been placed outdoors or in a humid environment or if the products have been used for non-domestic functions (unless specified otherwise). It does not cover plague damage: Damages caused by isoptera (termites), xylophagous (woodworm) or any other insect that damages the integrity of the furniture. The guarantees do not cover unintentional damage, accidental damage, lost profit, caused to the property or the physical integrity of the consumer. The guarantee is for domestic use only and the invoice made out in the name of a natural person, excluding office/business furniture. The products subject to guarantee will have a maximum of 4 redemptions thereof. Once the established redemptions have been exceeded, IKEA will offer a non-refundable credit note for the original value paid, deducting the ITBIS. In virtue of the provisions of Articles 63 paragraph and 70 of Law No.358-05 if it was proven that the product has been sold defective, it will be at the consumer's option to replace it, lower the price or refund the money.

What is covered under this limited guarantee?

The one (1) year guarantee covers appliance failures that have been caused by manufacturing failures or material failures from the date of delivery of the product to the consumer. This warranty applies to domestic use. Exceptions are specified under the "what is not cover by the guarantee" section. If any repair service is performed during the guarantee period, the warranty time of the appliance or the new components will not be extended.

Which appliances are covered under this limited guarantee?

The one (1) year guarantee is valid for all IKEA kitchen appliances and covers defects in materials and workmanship.

What is not covered by the guarantee?

  • The TILLREDA and LAGAN series.
  • If the service is under guarantee, this does not extend to the guarantee period of the appliance.
  • Natural wear or tear.
  • Requests to correct the installation of the appliance, when performed by an unauthorised service provider or directly by the customer or in cases where the installation was not performed by IKEA, to give you or instruct you on the instructions for use of the product, to replace or repair fuses or to correct wiring or plumbing.
  • Repair or replacement of consumable parts like light bulbs, water filters or air filters.
  • Replacement of spare parts if the appliance is not used properly, for domestic use only, or when used in a manner contrary to the operator's recommended installation instructions.
  • Damage caused by accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, fire, flood, fortuitous cases, improper installation when carried out by a non-authorised service provider or by the customer directly or in cases where it was not carried out by IKEA.
  • Damage to the following parts: ceramic, accessories, dinnerware and cutlery baskets, feed and drainage pipes, seals, bulbs, lamp holders, screens, knobs, pipe casings and parts of pipe casings... unless such damages can be proved to be due to production faults.
  • Cases where no fault could be found during a technician’s visit.
  • Installation when performed by an unauthorised service provider or directly by the customer or in cases where the installation was not performed by IKEA not in accordance with electrical or plumbing codes.
  • Superficial damages including scratches, bumps, splinters, unless those damages are due to faults in the materials or manufacturing, and are informed before the 30 days after the purchase was made.
  • Repair or replacement of consumable parts like light bulbs, water filters or air filters.
  • Damage from improper use of cleaning products. The maintenance and use instructions are contained within each product and you can always request more information in Customer Service in the email atencioncliente.sdq@ikea.com.do or by visiting www.ikea.com.do
  • Loss of food due to faults in the fridge or freezer.
  • Pickup and transport. The appliance is repaired at home.
  • Delivery expenses if the appliance has been placed in a remote area of the home where the service is not possible.
  • Repair of parts or systems resulting from non-authorised changes.
  • The withdrawal or reinstallation of the appliance if it's inaccessible or is not installed according to the instructions.
  • Replacement of parts or reparation if the originals have been altered. This guarantee is not valid if the number of the original series has been altered or modified.
  • Repair or replacement costs shall be borne by the customer in those cases where the warranty does not cover the above conditions.

Who will perform the service? The guarantee is covered by Sarton Dominicana SAS, who will provide the service according to its operation or a network of subcontracted services.

KITCHEN taps or keys

What is covered under this limited guarantee?

This 10-year guarantee is only applied to domestic use and covers defects in the materials and the manufacture off all taps. Our kitchen taps are tested to international standards and we only use very good quality components to ensure the 10 year guarantee.

What is not covered under this limited guarantee?

This guarantee does not cover LAGAN traps or the logical deterioration over time, cuts or scratches, or damages caused by accidents or waste of water. The filter does not apply either, it must be cleaned regularly and replaced once it's worn out.

Carefully follow the assembly, installation and care instructions. This warranty does not apply to products that have been improperly stored, assembled or installed, used improperly, altered or modified or cleaned with improper cleaning methods or products.

What is not covered under this limited guarantee?

This guarantee does not cover changes in appearance, such as, those generated by normal wear and tear, cuts or scratches, change in colour, or damage caused by knocks or accidents of the kitchen pots and pans (hereafter cookware), unless they have significant effect on their functions. The guarantee for the IKEA 365+ series with non-stick coating is valid for five (5) years from the date of delivery of the product to the consumer.

What is covered under this limited guarantee?

The guarantee covers function, materials and manufacturing of the complete IKEA 365+ cookware set collection.

This guarantee covers:

  • Stability of the base. Meaning that the base will keep its flat form to send the heat in an efficient way.
  • Washing in a domestic dishwasher. It does not have negative consequences on the function of stainless steel items. However, notice that all of the non-stick coated items or items made of cast iron, should always be washed by hand.
  • Non-stick properties on non-stick “pans”. This means that the non-stick IKEA 365+ products are easy to wash and can be used to cook low fat during a minimum of 5 years.

This guarantee covers:

  • Stability of the base. Meaning that the base will keep its flat form to send the heat in an efficient way.
  • Non-stick properties of the pans. This means that TROVÄRDIG non-stick items are easy to clean and can be used to cook low fat for a minimum of 10 years.

What is not covered under this limited guarantee?

This guarantee does not cover changes in appearance, such as, those generated by normal use, cuts or scratches, change of colour, or damage caused by knocks or accidents of the frying pans, unless they have a significant effect on their functions. This guarantee covers function, materials and manufacturing of all IKEA 365+ knives. This means that under a normal domestic use and following our maintenance instructions, the knives will continue to function as if they were new, even after 15 years. About this, it is defined as normal use when it is used to cut food, hand washed once a day and regularly sharpened.

This guarantee covers:

  • Knife sharpening. The knife must be sharp when purchased and you will have to be able to keep it sharp for it to work properly. The blade is made of strengthened steel, so it will be possible for the knife to be sharp as the first day at least during the period.
  • Durable handle. The handle of the knife should not crack, break or come loose from the blade, so the knife is not possible to use.
  • That there will not be any corrosion on the knife blade.

What is not covered under this limited guarantee?

This guarantee is valid for all bathroom wash-basins and mixer taps (except OLSKÄR) . The guarantee applies to domestic use only and covers defects in material and workmanship in all bathroom wash-basins.

This guarantee does not cover wear and tear due to normal use, cuts or scratches, or damage caused by shocks, accidents or debris in the water. Products that have been improperly stored or installed by an unauthorized service provider or by the customer directly or that have not been made by IKEA, used inappropriately or incorrectly, altered, or cleaned with improper methods or with erroneous cleaning products. For the OLSKÄR series the standard guarantee of 90 days from the date of delivery applies.

The IKEA shower key guarantee is valid for ten (10) years and is effective from the date of delivery of the product.

This 25-year guarantee covers the defects in the materials and manufacture of the following components of the mattresses or bases from the date of purchase at IKEA. The original or digital purchase receipt must be presented as proof of purchase. This guarantee applies to domestic use only. The mattress cannot show sign of dirt, stains or mistreatment, must be protected with a mattress protector to avoid their deterioration or the signs indicated above. In any case, technical service will verify the conditions, diagnosing the condition in each case.

  • Wooden frame and sheets in the slatted bed frames.
  • Wooden and springs structures of the mattress bases.
  • The springs of the spring mattresses.

What is not covered under this limited guarantee?

The guarantee for the BEKANT, IDÅSEN, THYGE, GALANT storage system and HÄLLAN enclosures is valid for ten (10) years from the date of delivery to the consumer. The original simplified invoice must be presented as proof of purchase.

The guarantee covers defects in the materials, manufacture and operation of all components of the BEKANT, IDÅSEN, THYGE, GALANT storage system and HÄLLAN cabinets.

What is not covered under this limited guarantee?

The following products of the BEKANT desks series and the GALANT storage series are not covered by the guarantee:

  • BEKANT screens, the standard guarantee of 90 days from the date of delivery applies.
  • This guarantee does not cover wear and tear due to normal use, cuts or scratches, or damage caused by shock, accident or waste. The mobile parts are components with movement or adjustment functions. The guarantee covers the functions for the components of the wheels, gas cylinder, mechanism, armrest and the back readjustment mechanism.

  • For all other components or items the 90-days guarantee from the date of delivery would apply.

For how long is this guarantee valid?

The guarantee of the FYRTUR motorized roller blinds is (5) years from the date of purchase. The original simplified receipt will be required as proof of purchase.

What is covered under this limited guarantee?

This guarantee covers the full functionality of the roller blind. This means that, in the face of normal domestic use and following maintenance instructions, the blinds will work the same as the first day, even after 5 years. In this case, a normal use is understood as moving the blinds down and up once a day. The guarantee covers all electronic parts except batteries.

What is not covered under this limited guarantee?

Included batteries are not covered by this guarantee.
