Maintenance Instructions

Before first use

  • Wash, rinse and dry the knife before using it for the first time.
Cleaning
  • Knives are best washed by hand. The knife is unlikely to be damaged if it is washed in the dishwasher, but the cutting edge may be damaged and the blade may corrode.
  • Wash and dry the knife immediately after use. This avoids any risk of spreading bacteria from, for example, raw chicken to fresh vegetables.
  • To avoid marks on the blade, dry the knife immediately after washing.
Sharpening
  • A sharp knife is much safer, so make sure you sharpen your knives regularly. IKEA knives have a stainless steel blade that is easy to sharpen.
We recommend once a week for normal household use.

  • Remember that the sharpener must be made of a harder material than the steel of the blades. For this reason, you need to use a sharpener made of ceramic, diamond or whetstone. No
ever use a sharpener made of stainless steel.

  • If a knife is badly dulled due to prolonged use or poor care, you may need to have the knife blade sharpened by a professional.
