Let’s make the planet
a better place to live

100% sustainable cotton, wood from responsible forests, plastic from renewable or recycled materials and bamboo, the material of the future. At IKEA we are committed to the environment and we have an aim: by 2030, 100% of our products will be made with recycled or renewable materials.

Did you know that…?

Bamboo filters CO2 out of the air, produces oxygen and has a high growth rate. This makes it extremely sustainable.

Committed to 100% sustainable cotton

At IKEA, cotton is either recycled or grown with less water and pesticides, while increasing profits for cotton farmers.

We want wood to last forever

Because wood is very important to us. We work to take care of the world’s forests through responsible wood management, making sure we have forests for everyone. Forever.

By 2030, only plastic from renewable or recycled materials

We have already started our journey towards this goal, with a plan to replace single-use plastic in our range. Also, we are now using different kinds of sustainable plastic in an increasing number of products.

Don’t worry, pandas don’t eat the species of bamboo used to make this furniture.

The material of the future is called bamboo

It’s more sustainable than other materials and has many benefits, to both people and the planet. This is why we are increasingly using it as a material in our products.

Did you know that…?

Cotton from sustainable sources means less water consumption and more economic benefits for farmers and their families.

Sustainable cotton can change lives

We call it Cotton from More Sustainable Sources (CMSS), and it has made a real change in how we produce cotton. Profits stay with the weaver, the factory and the farmers, ensuring a better future for them and their children.

Help us take care of the forests

Wood is renewable, recyclable, durable, long-lasting and ages beautifully. As a large wood user, we have the responsibility to positively influence how it is sourced. This is why we work with global partners such as WWF and Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) to fight against forest deforestation.

Made with hands. And with hearts.

Working with social entrepreneur artisans (mostly women) gives us the opportunity to offer tailor-made services and unique products to our customers, while contributing to give jobs to refugees and vulnerable groups.

Creating amazing things from what we already have

When creating a new product, we look for ways to be sustainable using leftovers from other products or recycled materials. This challenges our designers, but the result is amazing. The planet and our children’s future will thank us for it.
